What to look for in a woman’s sore thumb

Women with thumb pain may have stenosing tenosynovitis, rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. 1. Stenosing tenosynovitis: also known as “mom’s hand”, is a kind of thumb tendon inflammation caused by overuse of thumb abduction and adduction. Common symptoms include pain and weakness in the thumb near the wrist, which is more serious when waking up in the morning; obvious pain when twisting the wrist or repeatedly flexing and extending the thumb; tightness and swelling in the wrist, which sometimes extends upward to the forearm or downward to the thumb. 2. Rheumatoid arthritis: related to heredity, infection, trauma, wind-cold and other factors, it is a long-term persistent disease mainly affecting the joints. Patients will have fever, swelling and pain in the joints. Pain and stiffness tend to worsen with rest and are therefore more common in the morning. Other systemic disorders include low red blood cell count, inflammation of the lungs and inflammation of the heart. 3. Osteoarthritis: Also known as degenerative arthritis, this is a joint disease in which the cartilage in the joints wears out, the cartilage thins, and bone spurs grow on the bones above and below the joints, the incidence of which increases with age. The common symptoms are pain and swelling in the fingers and bone spurs in the joints. In severe cases, the patient’s hand movement is greatly restricted, seriously affecting daily life and work. Thumb pain may also have other causes, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, complete the examination to determine the cause of the disease, and then follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
