American ginseng does not have the effect of lowering blood sugar, but it can improve the uncomfortable symptoms caused by high blood sugar.
Radix Panax Ginseng has a bitter and slightly sweet flavor, and has the effect of nourishing yin and benefiting qi, clearing heat and generating fluids. It can treat wheezing, coughing, phlegm and blood caused by yin deficiency and fire exuberance, and is often used in heat diseases where qi and yin are injured, with tiredness and thirst, and dry mouth. Therefore, it can treat symptoms such as easy thirst caused by increased blood sugar, and requires identification of symptoms before use.
Radix Panax Ginseng should not be used together with Veratrum. It is contraindicated in all cases of deficiency of middle yang, cold-dampness obstruction (cold-dampness evil Qi blocking the spleen and stomach in the middle part of the body) and Qi depression that turns into fire, and all other cases of solidity and fire depression.
