Causes of death due to intestinal obstruction

Intestinal obstruction is actually a very complex group of diseases, and many causes can lead to intestinal obstruction. The cause of death from intestinal obstruction may be other diseases, such as having a serious tumor, severe pulmonary infection, or severe systemic multi-organ failure. If the death is only due to intestinal obstruction itself, the most common is a disturbance of water-electrolyte and acid-base balance. The human body is all about maintaining a balanced internal environment, and the amount of water in and out, electrolyte balance and acid-base balance are all in a very delicate state of equilibrium. If in a state of intestinal obstruction, a large amount of water and electrolytes may be lost in the intestinal lumen. In addition, a large amount of toxins or bacteria produced by fluid and bacteria cannot be excreted out of the body, and many toxins will be produced in the body and absorbed into the blood through the intestinal wall, which may lead to serious infection throughout the body. Therefore, in the state of severe intestinal obstruction, there are two most important causes of death: 1) disturbance of water-electrolyte and acid-base balance caused by severe intestinal obstruction; 2) severe infection, the source of this infection is caused by microorganisms inside the intestinal tract through the intestinal wall.
