Laparoscopic surgery for multiple diseases in one visit

One patient, a 50-year-old male, had gallbladder stones, chronic appendicitis, gastric smooth muscle tumor, and a colon tumor. Conventional surgery would have required two separate openings and a large incision. Since laparoscopy requires only a “keyhole” in the abdomen and can explore anywhere in the abdominal cavity, the patient underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, resection of gastric smooth muscle tumor, appendectomy, and resection of colon tumor. The surgery was quick, safe, and minimally invasive, solving all four problems at once. After the surgery, the patient recovered quickly, was ventilated the next day, had little pain, and went home after 5 days in the hospital. The cost was much less than having two major surgeries. It is in line with our working style: minimize the pain and expense, and put the efficacy and life to the highest. Zhu Jianwei, Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Nantong University Hospital
