What to take with glimepiride and miglitol

Glimepiride and Miglitol are both hypoglycemic agents. Glimepiride is recommended to be taken shortly before or with breakfast, or shortly before or with the 1st main meal if breakfast is skipped. Miglitol is recommended to be taken before meals. The exact dosage of both medications varies from person to person, so it is recommended to consult your doctor. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drug used to treat non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus by stimulating the secretion of insulin from pancreatic β-cells to achieve the purpose of lowering glucose. The dosage is adjusted according to the individual blood glucose situation, and the recommended starting dose is 1mg per day, with the maximum not exceeding 6mg. Glimepiride is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic coma, ketoacidosis, pregnant and lactating women, and severe hepatic or renal impairment. Miglitol belongs to the alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, by slowing down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestinal tract to control blood glucose, so it is recommended to be taken orally before a regular meal, the recommended initial dose of 25mg, 3 times a day; maintenance dose of 50mg, 3 times a day; the maximum dose of 100mg, 3 times a day, the amount of dosage adjusted according to the individual’s blood glucose. Miglitol is contraindicated in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulcers, incomplete intestinal obstruction, and a predisposition to intestinal obstruction. Glimepiride and Miglitol are both glucose-lowering drugs, blindly used with the risk of hypoglycemia, must be used under the guidance of a doctor to avoid the risk.
