Hysteroscopic internal uterine curettage is performed when the internal uterine curettage is performed because the hysteroscopy uses water flow to dilate the uterus to see clearly what is going on inside the uterus. If the water flows through the fallopian tube into the pelvic cavity, the endometrium may be free through the tube into the pelvic cavity, causing inflammation and endometriosis, which has a 20%-40% chance of occurring, but in most cases the chance of occurrence may be low. The endometrium may be damaged to a greater or lesser extent after the scalpel procedure, which may thin the endometrium and cause complications, such as uterine adhesions, with a 1%-10% chance of occurrence.
