Deferiprone usually needs to be taken for 10 to 14 days to induce menstruation.
Deferiprone is a progestin that converts the proliferative endometrium into a secretory phase, and when the medication is discontinued, the endometrium undergoes hormonal withdrawal shedding, resulting in the formation of menstruation.
If started on the 11th day of the menstrual period, it is usually necessary to combine it with estrogen for 14 days, and withdrawal bleeding from the uterus may occur 3 to 5 days after discontinuation of the drug, allowing menstruation to occur. If a woman experiences delayed menstruation, after pregnancy has been ruled out, she may discontinue the drug for 10 consecutive days and observe for the onset of menstruation.
Deferiprone promotes menstruation in women who have a lack of progesterone in their bodies, but have some estrogen levels or take estrogen medications. If the endometrial hyperplasia is poor due to estrogen deficiency, the drug is less effective in promoting menstruation. The drug must be taken under the guidance of clinicians to avoid adverse reactions.
