As there are many causes of shadows in the lungs, including inflammation of the lungs, tuberculosis or tumours in the lungs. On a chest X-ray, dense shadows appear in areas of normal lung tissue, which appear as masses or nodules on a chest X-ray or CT. If the lung shadows are large, a CT scan of the chest is required to assist in identifying the cause.
