After-effects of wearing braces at age 36

It is true that there are some sequelae to wearing braces after the age of 36. Although teeth are straightened by orthodontic means, they are likely to lead to resorption of the alveolar bone, and this resorption is generally uncontrollable. So it does not follow that resorption will not occur because of a more caring oral environment. The main reason why orthodontic treatment at the age of 36 will have sequelae is because the bone development has been basically completed and the teeth have been basically set at this time. Although slight adjustment can be made by orthodontic means, such adjustment will stimulate the resorption of alveolar bone, and in more serious cases, it will cause the resorption of tooth roots. Root resorption is largely controllable and results in a rounded base, but there are some patients who can trigger root resorption with irreversible consequences.
