Is it normal for a 52 year old man to have a blood pressure of 140/84?

A blood pressure of 140/84 mmHg in a 52-year-old man is not normal.
Normal blood pressure levels are defined as an office systolic blood pressure of 90-139 mmHg and a diastolic blood pressure of 60-89 mmHg without the use of antihypertensive medication. In China, hypertension is currently defined as an office systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mmHg and/or a diastolic blood pressure of ≥90 mmHg.
However, the diagnosis of hypertension requires three measurements of blood pressure in a quiet state, not on the same day, and all three of the blood pressure results need to be consistent with a systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mmHg and/or a diastolic blood pressure of ≥90 mmHg.
Therefore, a 52-year-old man with a blood pressure of 140/84 mmHg is abnormal, but a single blood pressure result alone cannot definitively diagnose hypertension, and close monitoring of blood pressure is needed, as well as active lifestyle interventions, such as weight reduction, low-salt and low-fat diets, cessation of smoking and alcohol consumption, and appropriate exercise.
If blood pressure is found to be higher than normal, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to avoid delaying the condition.
