Swelling and numbness in the palm of the hand may be caused by acute injury, radicular cervical spondylosis, carpal tunnel syndrome and other factors. When acute injury exists, cold compresses should be applied promptly. For nerve root cervical spondylosis and carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical traction and medication can be performed, and surgery should be performed if necessary.
1. Acute injury: for example, excessive compression or smashing, resulting in symptoms of swelling and numbness in the palm of the hand, in the acute stage, ice packs should be used to apply cold compresses to the affected area to prevent swelling from worsening. In the recovery period, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs can be applied, such as diclofenac, ibuprofen, etc., which can be used in conjunction with physiotherapy, such as heat therapy and baking electricity.
2. Neurogenic cervical spondylosis: For neurogenic cervical spondylosis, cervical traction can be performed to improve the nerve root compression, and with the oral nutritional drugs to regulate the nerves, such as methylcobalamin, and the use of analgesic drugs, such as ibuprofen, to improve the symptoms of pain. If the pain is particularly severe, surgery can be considered, such as anterior cervical discectomy and implant fusion.
3. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: A brace can be used to immobilize the carpal joint, and oral ibuprofen can be taken to reduce pain symptoms. Methylprednisolone and other medications can also be injected into the local area to reduce local inflammation and edema. If the above treatments are not effective or the symptoms are particularly severe, surgery should be considered to relieve the compression of the nerve.
In the process of treatment, we should follow the doctor’s instructions, use medication reasonably, and after the surgery, do a good job in all aspects of postoperative care, and regularly consult the doctor for rechecking.
