Children with HFMD are usually isolated until their temperature is normal and the rash subsides before they can attend school, a process that often takes up to 2 weeks. HFMD is an acute infectious disease caused by enteroviruses such as coxsackievirus group A type 16 and enterovirus 71. Patients and latently infected persons are the main sources of infection, and the modes of transmission include fecal-oral transmission, respiratory droplet transmission and close contact transmission. In order to avoid transmission to others and causing epidemics, patients should be isolated until their body temperature is normalized and the rash subsides, which usually takes 2 weeks. Patients’ personal belongings should be thoroughly disinfected by boiling, etc. Meanwhile, feces of affected children should be disinfected by chlorine disinfectant for 2 hours and then dumped. If there is any discomfort, it is recommended to seek prompt medical attention.
