What to do about a cyst in the pterygoid sinus

Pterygoid sinus cysts generally do not require special treatment if they are small and asymptomatic, while larger cysts with symptoms can be treated surgically.
Pterygoid sinus belongs to one of the four groups of sinuses in the human body. Pterygoid sinus cysts are caused by blockage of the sinus opening and retention of secretions in the sinus. Pterygoid sinus cysts can cause resorption and thinning of the surrounding bone, and in severe cases may destroy the surrounding bone and put pressure on the surrounding structures and tissues, resulting in symptoms such as headaches, diplopia, ptosis, and vision loss.
If the size of the pterygoid sinus cyst is small and the patient does not show obvious symptoms, it can be observed temporarily without treatment. If the size of the cyst is large and the patient develops uncomfortable symptoms, endoscopic cyst removal surgery can be performed as prescribed by the doctor.
At present, there is no specific drug for pterygoid sinus cysts, if patients have headache symptoms, they can follow the doctor’s instructions to use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen extended-release capsules, indomethacin capsules and so on, in order to achieve the effect of relieving headache.
It is recommended to seek timely medical treatment, standardized treatment under the guidance of the doctor to control the development of the disease, and regular follow-up.
