How to treat thyroid nodules

Benign and asymptomatic thyroid nodules are usually treated with regular follow-up; if the nodules are enlarged, have pressure symptoms or have a tendency to become malignant, surgery may be required under the supervision of a physician; if the thyroid nodules cause thyroid function abnormalities, treatment with antithyroid medication or levothyroxine may be required. Ultrasound is the most important imaging tool for evaluating thyroid nodules. Ultrasound can determine whether the nodule is single or multiple, the size of the nodule, the morphological features of the nodule, and the blood supply status of the nodule. Evaluation of the morphologic features of the nodule, sometimes in conjunction with its blood supply, can help ultrasound determine the risk of malignancy of a thyroid nodule. Patients with thyroid nodules should consult a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment to avoid delays.
