What does eucommia do?

Eucommia can tonify the liver and kidney, strengthen the muscles and bones, and tranquilize the fetus.

Cortex Eucommiae is the dried bark of Cortex Eucommiae, family Eucommiaceae. It is sweet in flavor and warm in nature. It belongs to liver and kidney meridians. It has the effect of tonifying the liver and kidney, strengthening the tendons and bones, and tranquilizing the fetus. It is used in treating deficiency of liver and kidney (weakness of liver and kidney), lumbar and knee pain, weakness of muscles and bones, dizziness, leakage of blood in pregnancy, and restlessness of fetus.

Cortex Eucommiae is often used together with Walnut Meat and Bone-setting Resin for treating kidney deficiency and lumbago or impotence of the feet and knees; together with Dugong, Sanghongsheng, and Xiaoxin for treating rheumatism and lumbago and coldness; together with Rhizoma Ligusticum Chuanxiong, Guixin, and Salviae Miltiorrhizae for treating traumatic lumbago; and with Angelica Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligusticum Chuanxiong, and Paeoniae Alba for treating lumbago in women’s periods.

Cortex Eucommiae is a warm tonic and should be used with caution in cases of yin deficiency (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactivity of deficiency fire). It is recommended that patients take it under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner for evidence-based treatment, and do not use it on your own to avoid delaying your condition.
