Enalapril maleate is a drug used for the treatment of essential hypertension and can be used in combination with other drugs, as well as in congestive heart failure. Enalapril maleate is a potent angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that does not contain sulfhydryl groups and acts in the body after hydrolysis to enalaprilat, with a slow and long-lasting hypotensive effect. Its contraindications are that it should not be used in people who are allergic to this drug, or contraindicated in people with bilateral renal artery stenosis, and it should be used with caution in people with severely impaired renal function. Adverse effects of enalapril maleate have mild and transient manifestations and can be seen in dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, epigastric discomfort, nausea, palpitations, chest tightness, cough, flushing, rash, and proteinuria.
