Why do elderly people have swollen feet?

Swollen feet in the elderly are generally divided into the following aspects: 1. if the edema is unilateral, consider whether there is occlusion or stenosis of the blood vessels in the lower extremities; if the edema in the lower extremities is bilateral, consider whether the patient has problems with kidney function, thus causing edema in the lower extremities; 2. liver disorders, if there is cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer causing hypoproteinemia, edema will also appear; 3. the presence of underlying heart disorders, acute and chronic heart failure will also appear. Acute and chronic heart failure is usually accompanied by swollen feet; 4. Some elderly people have swollen feet because they have been sitting for a long time and their lower limbs have been sagging for a long time, resulting in impaired blood circulation, but generally the swollen feet will disappear when the lower limbs are slightly padded, especially in the afternoon; 5. Insufficient intake of protein, especially animal protein, will lead to hypoproteinemia and swollen feet will appear.
