After the surgery is done, the next most important thing is to follow the doctor’s prescription for medication, such as retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage and other fundoplication surgery, how long do you need to use eye medication after surgery? Many post-operative patients are not very clear about the length of medication, so be sure to read the following content carefully. After surgery, four types of eye medications are generally used: 1, antibiotic eye drops: commonly used are gatifloxacin eye drops, ofloxacin eye drops, levofloxacin eye drops, tobramycin eye drops, these several eye drops can be selected any one, at present the most used fundoplication department is gatifloxacin eye drops. Postoperative routine use: 4 times a day, use 2 weeks to 3 weeks to stop; can also gradually reduce the amount to stop; for example, 4 times a day within 7 days after surgery, after 7 can be changed to 3 times a day, and then after a few days to 2 times a day, until discontinued. 2.Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: commonly used are bromfenac sodium drops and praprofen drops. Usage: Bromfenac sodium eye drops, 2 times a day, use for about 30 to 40 days to stop. Prapirofen eye drops 4 times a day can be reduced when the inflammatory reaction of the eye is reduced and stopped after about 30 to 40 days of use. Such drugs are not mandatory, some doctors do not add this drug at the beginning of the postoperative period, and start using this drug only after one or two weeks after the operation. 3.Hormone-containing eye drops: common ones are prednisolone acetate eye drops (Bactrim), tobramycin demi drops (D&B eye drops), and flumetron eye drops. According to the severity of the post-operative inflammatory reaction, the number of times of medication can be decided: once every 2 hours for heavy reactions, or 4 times a day for light reactions, according to the doctor’s guidance. In addition, do not use such drugs at your own discretion. Clinically, we occasionally encounter patients who do not follow medical advice and use the drugs on their own for two or three months, resulting in hormonal glaucoma, causing a serious decline in visual function. This eye ointment can be discontinued after two weeks of use, so be careful not to use it for too long to prevent hormonal glaucoma from occurring. Of course, everyone’s condition will not be the same, so the specific number of times to order and how long to use must be adjusted according to medical advice during the follow-up consultation. In addition, note that the use of hormone-containing eye medications is strictly prohibited for fungal infections. Hormonal eye medications should be used with caution for viral infections.
