A blocked blood vessel can be unblocked by surgery and also by medication. Traditional treatments for blood vessel blockages include interventional and open procedures. Patients with blood vessel blockage are associated with inflammatory lesions in the arteries and atherosclerosis, which leads to occlusion and narrowing of the blood vessels, causing ischemia in the organs supplied. Patients are advised to clear the blood vessels through endothelial debridement under the guidance of a doctor, and also through interventional therapy, including pharmacologic balloon dilatation, laser radiofrequency, and balloon dilatation stenting. Intravenous or arterial thrombolytic therapy such as urokinase and alteplase can also be given. Specific treatment should follow the doctor’s instructions.
