Postoperative rehabilitation program for traumatic peroneal tendon dislocation

  1. 1 day after surgery – before cast removal: 1) Straight leg raising exercises and quadriceps isometric contraction exercises should be performed to avoid muscle atrophy. 2) Strengthen toe flexion and extension exercises. 3) The postoperative ankle joint should be fixed in the natural plantar flexion position with a cast for 4 weeks. You can walk with the affected limb without weight-bearing, and the time should not be too long, just complete the necessary daily life of going to the toilet. 2. 6 weeks after surgery: adjust the specific plan after review by the doctor 1) After removal of the cast, you should wear a rigid ankle brace for 3 months. 2) Walk with crutches on the affected limb with partial weight-bearing, the time should not be too long, just complete the necessary daily life of going to the toilet. Do not take walking as a training program, but gradually extend the walking time according to the situation, and make sure that the swelling and pain of the ankle joint are not obvious the next day. 3) Continue straight leg raising, knee and hip flexion and extension exercises to strengthen muscle strength exercises. Perform isometric contraction exercises of the calf muscles. 4) Passive ankle exercises should be performed 2 times/day for 10-15 minutes/time. Apply ice immediately after the exercise. 5) Active ankle motion is possible, including all directions of the ankle joint. Insist on one passive ankle movement per day at maximum joint angle for 5-8 minutes at a pain tolerant angle, once per day only. Apply ice immediately after the exercise. 3. 8-10 weeks after surgery: 1) Start to walk with full weight on the affected limb with the help of crutches, and gradually extend the walking time according to your condition, ensuring that the ankle swelling and pain are not obvious the next day. 2) Squatting exercises: If the patellofemoral joint is softened, adjust the angle and intensity of squatting according to the situation. 3) Start resistance ankle exercises, including all directions of the ankle joint, and gradually increase the resistance. 4) Generally resume normal exercise gradually about 4 months after surgery.
