High γ-glutamyltransferase indicates that there may be abnormalities in the liver, biliary tract, pancreas and other organs, but it needs to be combined with other indicators and tests to make a comprehensive judgment. γ-Glutamyltransferase works by transferring the γ-glutamyl group on glutathione to another peptide or amino acid. Normal people’s serum γ-glutamyltransferase mainly comes from the liver, and is excreted through the biliary tract and other organs. When serum γ-glutamyltransferase is elevated, it may be due to hyper-synthesis in the liver or obstruction of bile discharge due to narrowing or obstruction of the biliary system, thus causing elevation of γ-glutamyltransferase. Pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors, and prostate tumors can also cause gamma-glutamyltransferase to rise. When γ-glutamyltransferase is elevated, it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital in time to improve the ultrasound, CT, MRI and other auxiliary examinations of the abdominal organs, so as to clarify the cause of the disease and then carry out treatment.
