The dilated urethra may become narrow again. After urethral dilatation, the urethra may become narrow again, requiring multiple urethral dilatation procedures. In general, it is best to perform urethral dilatation once a week, and urinary tract infections need to be avoided. If the preoperative examination suggests that there is a urinary tract infection, anti-infection treatment, such as oral levofloxacin, should be carried out as soon as possible, and the infection should be controlled before the urethral dilatation procedure is performed. The interval between two urethral dilatation surgeries is initially one week, after which the interval is gradually extended. If the dilated urethra recovers well and stays in good condition, urethral dilatation surgery can be done once a month at a later stage. The exact timing of urethral dilatation surgery should be based on the patient’s own situation and the advice of the treating doctor.
