Intravenous infusion operation procedures include preparation of equipment and drugs, checking drug and patient information, injection operation and needle removal.
1. Preparation matters:
(1) Prepare disinfectant, injection tray, treatment cart, required medications, several cotton swabs, adhesive tape, disposable sterile syringes, garbage cans, tourniquets, and hand disinfectant.
(2) Wash hands, wipe injection trays and treatment carts with disinfectant solution. Check the medication and dosage according to the doctor’s orders, and also check the expiration date of the medication, whether there are any cracks on the cap and bottle, and whether the medication is spoiled. Check disposable syringes for expiration date and broken packaging.
(3) Prepare and label medication.
(2) Check: the basic information of the drug and the patient, if the drug is allergy-prone, ask for allergy history and explain the operation to the patient. Checking items should be done before and after the infusion operation and before the preparation of drugs.
3. Operation: Clamp the disposable infusion set after exhausting and hang it on the infusion stand, choose a good vein, try to choose superficial vein, tie a tourniquet about 6cm away from the place where the needle is inserted, and disinfect the skin with compound iodine (6~8cm in diameter) twice.
Prepare adhesive tape, hold the needle in the right hand, the tip of the needle beveled upward at an angle with the skin into the needle, see the return of blood after loosening the tourniquet, the instructions to loosen the fist, loosen the infusion clip, adhesive tape fixation, adjusting the drip rate, recording and organizing, and explaining the precautions to the patient.
4. Remove the needle: always pay attention to the end of the patient’s infusion time, timely removal of the needle, remove the needle should be gentle and steady, to reduce the patient’s pain, pay attention to check the information, sorting and classification of medical waste.
The whole intravenous operation should pay strict attention to the aseptic operation, checking system, and arranging the infusion system according to the plan.
