Cistanchis is the fleshy stem with scaly leaves of the plant Cistanchis with scale leaves in the family of Cistanchiaceae. It is sweet, salty and warm in nature, and belongs to the kidney and large intestine meridians. It has the effect of tonifying the kidney and yang, tonifying essence and blood, moistening the intestines and laxative. It is used for kidney yang deficiency, essence and blood deficiency, impotence and infertility, lumbar and knee weakness, muscle and bone weakness, intestinal dryness and constipation. It is not to be taken by those who have deficiency of yin, fire and loose stools.
It is often used in combination with Cuscuta chinensis, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Eucommiae, Cortex Eucommiae and Cortex Eucommiae. It is also used in combination with Shen Xiang, Cortex Eucommiae and Cortex Eucommiae for treating deficiency of kidney qi, inability to pass stools, long urination and coldness of waist and back, with Angelica sinensis and Zedoarya chinensis.
