What is the meaning of the vacuolation sign in a ground glass nodule?

The presence of a vacuolar sign within a ground glass nodule is a pathological description of both lungs by imaging. It is commonly seen clinically in diseases of the respiratory system, in inflammation of the lungs, post-inflammatory manifestations of fibrosis, calcification, various inflammatory and trauma-induced hemorrhages. It is accompanied by vacuolar signs of the lung and also by signs of lung inflation, suggesting the presence of emphysema and pulmonary alveoli. It is also seen in bronchopulmonary cancer resulting in damage to the lung tissue. In this case, a biopsy of the occupying lung lesion may be obtained for pathological examination, and respiratory secretions may be taken for culture of pathogens to clarify the possible etiology of the above.
