No need to bring gauze for a few days after the stitches

Gauze is required after stitches are placed in the wound and can be removed once the patient’s wound has healed. The time to remove the gauze varies because the recovery time varies for injuries in different parts of the body. The wound is usually wrapped with gauze after stitches to prevent outside bacteria from invading the wound and to avoid infection. Once the wound is completely healed and the stitches are removed, the patient can go without gauze. Usually, it takes 4-5 days for the head and facial wounds to heal completely; 6-7 days for the lower abdominal wounds; and 10-14 days for the wounds of the extremities to heal. Therefore, the time for the patient to remove the gauze needs to be determined by the site of injury. In addition, after the removal of stitches, patients can cover with sterile gauze for 1-2 days according to the situation to prevent infection because the eye of the needle is fresh tissue and contact with the outside world is easy to form infection.
