Liver metastasis is possible in colon cancer
The liver is the primary organ for distant metastasis of colorectal cancer and is a major contributing factor to death. Surgery remains an important treatment for patients with liver metastases from rectal cancer. Some studies claim that the 5-year overall survival rates of patients with surgically resectable and unresectable colorectal cancer liver metastases are 42% and 9%, respectively.
When liver metastasis of colorectal cancer is diagnosed: ① If the systemic condition is poor and does not tolerate intense treatment, low toxicity chemotherapy regimen or optimal supportive therapy is recommended to improve the quality of life and maximize the survival time. After the systemic condition improves, then evaluate whether it can tolerate other treatments; ② If it can tolerate strong treatment, different treatment goals and individualized treatment plans should be formulated according to the classification of the disease.
According to a study in China, the 5-year survival rate of colorectal cancer patients with liver metastases after liver metastasectomy reaches 45.0%, and the median survival period is 43 months.
It is recommended to go to regular hospitals for comprehensive assessment of the disease and follow the doctor’s instructions to improve the prognosis and prolong the survival time, so as to avoid delaying the disease.
