Can epilepsy be cured?

In the past, there were few epilepsy treatment drugs, and people had little research and understanding of epilepsy, so many people were not well treated and their seizures were not controlled. However, since the 1980s, science has developed rapidly, and many new drugs have been introduced, and the level of epilepsy treatment has improved greatly. It has been proven that, overall, more than 80% can be cured. The cure rate for pediatric patients is even higher, with some types approaching 100% cure. This result is far more optimistic than people estimated, and early formal treatment is a major factor in determining the outcome of treatment. Many people in China now mistakenly believe that epilepsy cannot be cured, is “incurable” and “will become stupid”. This is because the current status of epilepsy treatment in many parts of China is far from satisfactory. For a long time, the teaching requirements of undergraduate students in medical schools in China have only “understood” the content of “epilepsy”, and many doctors, especially non-specialists, do not understand the basic knowledge of modern epilepsy treatment, and the treatment lacks systemic and regularity, so that The majority of patients who could have been cured lost a good opportunity; recurring seizures, so that patients who had insisted on taking medication lost confidence, thinking that there was little hope for a cure, and they did not scientifically stop taking medication, making epilepsy further aggravated and adding difficulties to further treatment.
