The concept of the anal phase comes from the Freudian psychoanalytic viewpoint, in which Freud believed that the psychosexual development of the personality is divided into several phases, that is, the orality phase, the anal phase, the genital phase, as well as the latency phase and the reproduction phase at a later stage. The anal phase is the stage from 1-3 years of age when children get some pleasure from defecation and the corresponding area is the anal phase. In this stage, the child learns to control his/her own bowel movements, and learns to take care of his/her own bowel movements, when he/she has to go to the toilet, when he/she has to go to the bathroom, and when he/she is able to complete the movement. In this process, the child in the anal stage gains self-control, and also gains some pleasure.
