Cerebral Palsy Symptoms and Treatment

Symptoms of cerebral palsy include movement disorders, abnormal reflexes, and speech disorders. Treatment includes general therapy, rehabilitation therapy, and medication.
1. Symptoms of cerebral palsy:
(1) Motor disorders: common such as spastic quadriplegia, spastic diplegia, spastic hemiplegia, involuntary movement type, ataxia type, mixed type and so on.
(2) Postural abnormality: There may be many kinds of abnormal postures of limbs, which may affect the normal motor function. For example, the head is tilted back when lying on the back and the lower limbs are straightened.
(3) Reflex abnormalities: delayed disappearance of many primitive reflexes and abnormal nerve reflexes.
(4) Early symptoms: Early symptoms mainly include backward motor development, difficulty in breastfeeding, hand, mouth and eye incoordination, and difficulty in swallowing.
2. Treatment of cerebral palsy:
(1) Rehabilitation therapy: Rehabilitation therapy is the main way to treat cerebral palsy, through the doctor to assess the patient’s level of neurodevelopment, motor function and so on, to formulate a rehabilitation program.
(2) Drug treatment: There is no specific drug for cerebral palsy, and the main treatment is symptomatic. For example, muscle relaxants such as baclofen can be used for spastic cerebral palsy.
(3) Surgery: Surgery can be used when necessary, mainly for spastic cerebral palsy and mixed cerebral palsy with spasticity. For example, selective posterior spinal nerve rhizotomy, selective partial resection of peripheral nerves, orthopedic surgery of bone joints and muscles and tendons.
It is recommended that patients with cerebral palsy should consult a doctor in time and be treated under the guidance of a professional doctor, and should not blindly use medication by themselves to avoid adverse consequences.
