Can a gastroenteroscopy detect H. pylori?

Gastroscopy alone cannot directly detect H. pylori infection, and H. pylori infection can usually be detected if a rapid urease test is performed under gastroscopy or if biopsies are taken for pathologic examination. Gastroscopy alone can visualize some lesions in the stomach, such as occupying lesions or mucosal erosion, etc., while H. pylori infection cannot be detected by visual inspection, so it cannot be detected directly. H. pylori can usually be detected if pathological tissue is taken for biopsy under gastroscopy, for example, by taking the gastric mucosa for pathologic examination, or by performing a rapid urease test under gastroscopy. H. pylori infection can also be detected by other screening methods, such as urea breath test and fecal antigen test, which are more convenient and accurate.
