Cilostazol Effects and Side Effects

Cilostazol inhibits platelet aggregation and vasodilatation by inhibiting phosphodiesterase activity to reduce the degradation of cAMP, thereby elevating platelet and intravascular cAMP levels. Side effects after administration include headache and dizziness, nausea and vomiting, sweating, swelling, bleeding, interstitial pneumonitis, palpitations, rash, abdominal pain, and elevated blood pressure. Cilostazol is used to improve ischemic symptoms such as chronic ulcers, limb pain, coldness and intermittent claudication caused by chronic atherosclerotic occlusive disease, and also to prevent recurrence after cerebral infarction. It is contraindicated in people who are allergic to any of the components of this drug, in patients with congestive heart failure, in patients with bleeding, and in women who are pregnant or at risk of pregnancy. This drug should be used with caution in the following patients: menstruating patients, patients with bleeding tendencies, patients using anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, thrombolytic agents, prostaglandin E1 preparations and derivatives, patients with combined coronary artery stenosis, patients with severe hepatic and renal dysfunction, hypertensive patients with persistently elevated blood pressure.
