How many years can a patient with LD be on LD?

In general, there is no clear clinical statement about how many years a PD patient can be on dialysis. It needs to be judged according to the patient’s needs and condition, can be lifelong dialysis, but if the dialysis process due to a variety of abdominal lesions, including peritoneal dysfunction and so on to affect the efficiency of the dialysis as well as the operation, may need to be terminated. Peritoneal dialysis is to inject dialysis fluid into the peritoneal cavity, with the help of chemical concentration gradient and osmotic pressure gradient of solutes in plasma and dialysis fluid in the capillaries on both sides of the peritoneum, through the principle of diffusion and osmosis, to achieve the therapeutic purpose of removing toxins, ultrafiltration of water, correcting acidosis and electrolyte disorders. It is mainly applicable to chronic renal failure, acute kidney injury, toxic diseases, etc. Peritoneal dialysis is a long-term treatment and can usually be lifelong if the patient needs it and his/her condition permits. Prompt termination of dialysis is usually required if, during the course of PD use, peritoneal clearance is reduced due to various abdominal pathologies, extensive infection of the abdominal wall, and severe burns that prevent intubation. Peritoneal dialysis is contraindicated in patients with extensive peritoneal adhesions or fibrosis and severe peritoneal defects resulting from abdominal surgery. It is recommended that peritoneal dialysis patients follow the doctor’s instructions and go to the hospital in case of discomfort to avoid delay.
