How to tell if you’re pregnant or your period is delayed

In clinical practice, urine pregnancy test, blood HCG test and ultrasound can be used to determine whether pregnancy or delayed menstruation is present.
1. Urine pregnancy test: urine pregnancy test is a laboratory method to detect the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in female urine. Urine pregnancy test must be used in the morning urine, because morning urine is concentrated, the hormone level is higher, the general test result is positive is considered to be pregnant, negative is considered to be delayed menstruation.
2. Blood HCG test: If you want to know whether you are pregnant or have delayed menstruation, you can also draw blood to test the level of human chorionic gonadotropin in the serum, usually about a week after the fertilized egg has been deposited, you can detect elevated levels of HCG in the blood, at this time, if you detect elevated levels of human chorionic gonadotropin in the blood of a woman, it means that the woman is already pregnant, and if there is no elevated levels, then If it is not elevated, the woman is pregnant.
3. Ultrasonography: If the delay is long, ultrasonography can be performed. If the gestational sac and yolk sac in the uterine cavity can be seen under ultrasonography, it is generally judged to be pregnancy, and on the contrary, it is delayed menstruation.
If menstruation is delayed for more than a week, besides pregnancy there may also be endocrine disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome and other diseases causing the delay, and it is recommended that the patient go to the hospital for consultation to clarify the cause.
