Can ichthyolite ointment be used on the face?

Ichthyolite ointment can be used on the face. In the clinic, ichthyol ointment is often used in patients with obvious infections. It can be used on the face if the patient has significant folliculitis, or sebaceous cysts secondary to infection or boils, or if the patient has acne combined with significant signs of infection. However, it should not be applied to the entire face, but rather to the area where the infection occurs. If the patient has significant skin breakdown, ichthyol ointment should not be applied. So patients who don’t have skin infections like these don’t need to apply it. For example, if the patient has hives or eczema on the face, or common acne, it is not appropriate to apply ichthyolite ointment.
