Atrial septal defects can be treated by atrial septal defect occlusion when other combinations are excluded for strict indications. China’s experience with atrial septal defect occlusion has matured, with a success rate of 100% for atrial septal defects of appropriate condition and size. Indications for surgery include age greater than three years, secondary foramen ovale type atrial septal defect >5mm in diameter, with increased volume load on the right side of the heart, left-to-right shunt atrial septal defect less than 30mm, the distance between the edge of the defect to the superior vena cava, the coronary sinus of the inferior vena cava, and the right upper pulmonary vein is more than 5mm, and the distance to the atrioventricular valve is more than 7mm, the diameter of the atrial septum is greater than the diameter of the left side of the umbrella used for blockage, and the atrial septum is not combined with other cardiac malformations that require surgery. Other cardiac anomalies that require surgical intervention.
