What you need to check for the cervical cancer vaccine

HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) test, Thin Layer Liquid Based Cytology (TLLBC) can be done before the cervical cancer vaccination if available.

The cervical cancer vaccine, also called the HPV vaccine, currently consists of 2-valent, 4-valent, and 9-valent, all of which are vaccines used to prevent human papillomavirus infection, and are useful for preventing cervical cancer and condyloma acuminatum.

People who have not had high-risk sex can get the maximum prevention effect after HPV vaccination. If you have already had sex and are infected with the relevant type of HPV, the preventive effect of the corresponding vaccine is often less effective.

Therefore, an HPV typing test is recommended to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccination. For example, if you have been infected with HPV type 16 or HPV type 18, the 2-valent HPV vaccine will not be effective.

Liquid-based thin-layer cytology (LBT) is also recommended for those who have the condition, which helps to diagnose cervical cancer. HPV vaccination is not recommended for patients who already have cervical cancer.

Therefore, the earlier the HPV vaccination, the better. Before vaccination, HPV typing test and liquid-based thin-layer cytology examination can be conducted to clarify the possible risks and maximize the preventive effect of vaccination. Cervical cancer vaccination does not mean that you will not get cervical cancer in the future, and it is also recommended to have cervical cancer screening on time after vaccination.
