What does ST-segment elevation mean?

ST-segment elevation is often indicative of the presence of acute myocardial ischemia, or even myocardial infarction. If the ECG shows ST-segment elevation in leads II, III, and aVF, it may be an acute inferior wall myocardial infarction. ST-segment elevation is a very dangerous type of ECG and should be combined with the patient’s symptoms, the dynamic evolution of the ECG, as well as cardiac enzymes and cardiac ultrasound to make a comprehensive judgment. If necessary, an emergency coronary angiogram may be required. If the ST-segment elevation is persistent, attention should also be paid to exclude the possibility of ventricular wall tumor.
