High basophils can be reviewed in the hospital by visiting a hematology, or internal medicine clinic.
Basophils are often used as an auxiliary diagnostic tool for certain allergic or inflammatory diseases, myeloproliferative disorders and basophilic leukemia, and also used to observe the effect of treatment.
1. Allergic diseases: basophilia can be seen in ulcerative colitis, urticaria, etc. It is recommended to consult outpatient clinic, dermatology, gastroenterology for review.
2. Myeloproliferative diseases: e.g. true erythrocytosis, primary myelofibrosis, chronic granulocytic leukemia. Persistent basophils > 0.1 x 10^9/L are a common feature of myeloproliferative disorders. Increased basophils can be an early sign of myeloproliferative diseases, and it is recommended to consult a hematologist for examination and treatment.
3. Basophilic leukemia: abnormal increase of basophils, up to 20% or more, mostly naïve type, it is recommended to consult hematology department for review.
Patients with high basophilic granulocytes should have regular checkups to avoid delaying their condition.
