Nasopharyngitis, is an acute or chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, with chronic nasopharyngitis being the most common. Chronic nasopharyngitis is often associated with inflammation of the nasal cavity or sinuses.
The mucosa of the nasopharynx and the mucosa of the pharynx are continuous. When any acute or chronic inflammation of the mucosa of the nasal cavity, sinuses, and pharynx can affect the nasopharynx, even gastroesophageal reflux disease can cause chronic nasopharyngitis.
