Low alanine aminotransferase in newborns is not clinically significant and does not require treatment. Normal values of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) are within 7 days after birth: 6-40 U/L; 8-30 days after birth: 10-40 U/L for male infants and 8-32 U/L for female infants. ALT mainly exists in hepatocytes and is released into the blood in large quantities when hepatocytes are destroyed, which elevates serum enzymes and is a sensitive indicator of liver function damage. Low alanine aminotransferase in neonates is not clinically significant and does not require treatment when combined with the general condition of the neonate, such as normal feeding and response. If a newborn has elevated alanine aminotransferase, accompanied by symptoms such as jaundice recurring, hepatomegaly, etc., it should be alerted to infantile hepatitis syndrome, and need to go to the hospital in time to consult the doctor.
