Wutong Tang is composed of ephedra, cinnamon sticks, ginseng, white peony, fine pith, dry ginger, half-summer, tangerine peel, thick pith, chaihu, citrus aurantium, atractylodes, poria, zedoary, and licorice.
Wutong Tang was created by Prof. Chen Chaozou. It is composed of ephedra and cinnamon sticks which are used for relieving cold from the surface of the body; atractylodes and poria which are used for strengthening the spleen and dispelling dampness; chen pericarp and houpaku which are used for resolving dampness and regulating qi; and gingko and xinsheng which are used for warming the lungs and resolving fluid (promoting the flow of water that stops accumulating by warming up the lungs).
The combination of all the herbs in Wutong Tang can help to dispel cold and warm yang qi internally, replenish its deficiency and clear its stagnation, and can treat the cold symptoms of the five viscera and the imbalance of qi, blood and fluids.
