The three main treatments for pituitary tumors include surgery, medications and radiation therapy. Since no single method can achieve a complete cure, each treatment method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Individualized treatment plans should be formulated according to the size of the pituitary tumor, hormone secretion, complications and co-morbidities, the patient’s age, whether he/she has fertility requirements and the patient’s financial situation. The efficacy of transsphenoidal saddle surgery carried out in recent years has been greatly improved compared with the past, and the risk of surgery has been significantly reduced, thus the indications for pituitary tumor surgery are wider than before.
