It is possible, but not certain, that a cervical biopsy can be problematic if the TCT is normal. TCT is performed by using a special brush to remove cervical cells from the cervical canal, which has certain limitations. If no abnormal cells are detected during the test, then the TCT is normal. If the TCT is normal, a colposcopic biopsy is needed depending on whether there is a combination of HPV infection. If the biopsy is not abnormal, then cervical cancer can be ruled out. It is generally recommended that women should have both TCT and HPV tests, and if the HPV is positive and there is no abnormality in the TCT test, a colposcopic biopsy can also be done to further diagnose whether there is cervical lesion.
