What is the secret of longevity?

Born on July 28, 1919 in the lunar calendar, she is a retired old cadre, nearly 90 years old this year, still hale and hearty, quick thinking, speaks in a loud voice, has a steady gait, has fair and delicate skin, and can hardly see age spots and wrinkles. When people saw her, they couldn’t help but admire her appearance and couldn’t tell that she was an old man in his 90s. They asked me about the secret of her longevity. As a doctor who has been practicing medicine for many years, I was naturally more interested in how she has maintained such a long life. She claimed to have “four highs”, i.e., high age, high blood pressure, high blood lipids, and high blood sugar, because she suffered from many diseases. She also suffers from cataracts, coronary heart disease and nearly 22 other diseases. She has been struggling with these diseases for more than 20 years. Miraculously, she lived to be almost 90 years old. When I asked her the reason for her longevity, she laughingly said a limerick: “reasonable diet, moderate exercise, open-mindedness, extensive friendships, and a disciplined life”. She further explained to me the meaning of these five lines, namely the following points: First, a reasonable diet: do not pick and choose food, as long as the food is good for health can eat, but pay attention to the acid-base balance. The second moderate exercise: everyone’s health condition is different, according to their own physical condition to arrange the appropriate form of exercise, my mother-in-law’s favorite form of exercise is walking, every day she walks after meals, as the saying goes: 100 steps after meals live to 99. The third open-minded: to be open-minded, do not compare food, clothing, enjoyment, wages, your life now is much better than when we were children. To make more contributions to the country and people, rather than for their own personal interests. Fourth, make friends, more a friend more a road, things rely on everyone to do, as the saying goes, the hearts of the people, Tai Shan Yi. Fifth, the law of living, get up on time, eat on time, go to bed on time. Do not randomly disrupt the routine. After listening to my mother-in-law’s words, I feel that what she said is very reasonable. I am now working as a doctor in the community, and my main focus is to do the work of disease prevention. As the standard of living improves, infectious diseases, malnutrition and injuries will cause fewer deaths, and more and more people will eventually die of chronic diseases (unless they live long enough to die without illness). The main way to prevent chronic diseases is to raise people’s health awareness, establish a scientific lifestyle, and eat a reasonable diet. In order to achieve “live well, live long, get sick later, and compress the survival time with disease as much as possible”.
