A blood pressure of 108/68 mmHg is within the normal blood pressure range. However, one blood pressure does not indicate that a patient’s blood pressure is normal, and the diagnosis of hypertension cannot be ruled out on the basis of one or two office blood pressure measurements alone. It needs to be observed over a period of time, and blood pressure should be measured at different points in time to observe the dynamic changes in blood pressure and the overall level. If one has been taking blood pressure lowering medications, a high pressure of 108 mmHg and a low pressure of 68 mmHg just means that the blood pressure has been controlled with antihypertensive treatment and the patient is still hypertensive and should continue to take antihypertensive medications for a long time. Even if the patient’s blood pressure is normal, regular blood pressure monitoring is necessary because the development of hypertension is a chronic process, and the only way to know if your blood pressure is changing is to monitor it regularly.
