Who can donate corneas?

Who can donate corneas? Corneas can be donated by anyone, including infants and children and corneas with disease, but corneas used for clinical transplantation are subject to disease and other factors. The cornea will be tested after it is obtained by the eye bank. Very few corneas that cannot be used for clinical transplantation will be used for medical education and research, and the majority of corneas obtained by the eye bank are currently used for clinical transplantation. Donors with certain diseases such as AIDS, syphilis, rabies, tetanus, leprosy, malignant tumors invading eye tissue, leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, etc. are not suitable for corneal transplantation, but can be used for medical research. For more information on corneal transplantation restrictions and related questions, please consult the Eye Bank staff.
