The wrist does not swell and it hurts when you force it or rotate it

There are many reasons why a patient’s wrist may not be swollen, but may become painful when force is exerted or rotated. The first thing to consider is a chronic strain injury at the wrist caused by the presence of overuse of the wrist due to weight-bearing activities such as lifting heavy objects and doing housework. This usually worsens with activity, but rarely with swelling, and often resolves on its own after a few hours of rest and braking of the wrist. In addition, the following conditions cannot be ruled out: 1. Trauma: If the palm of the hand is propped up on the ground during an inadvertent fall, it may lead to mild injury to the wrist, especially when the triangular fibrocartilage complex is injured, the patient may have burning-like pain and other manifestations, aggravated by force or rotation, and rarely swelling, which can be further determined by MRI examination of the wrist area; 2. Arthritis: When the patient has long-term, repeated weight-bearing or use of the wrist area etc., it may cause the occurrence of wrist arthritis. Initially, there may be no swelling, but the wrist may become painful when exerting force or rotating. It may also be caused by rheumatoid arthritis or degenerative osteoarthritis that spreads to the wrist. The different types of arthritis that cause the wrist, so if you cannot identify them, it is recommended that you go to the hospital to confirm the diagnosis. 3. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: This is mainly due to the long-term pressure on the wrist, which leads to the compression of the median nerve in its alignment, thus inducing carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition to pain and numbness when the wrist is exerted or rotated, such symptoms may also appear in the index finger and thumb of the affected hand, so it is recommended to go to orthopedics or hand and foot surgery for timely treatment; 4. The patient was advised to reduce hand activity and to reduce the number of hand movements. Patients are advised to reduce hand activities, as well as avoid contact with cold water, so as to reduce the condition, if necessary, medical treatment; 5, osteonecrosis: a common skeletal joint system disease, can occur in the wrist area, the patient will have significant pain, limited activity, stiffness and a series of clinical manifestations. Because the disease can be complicated by osteoarthritis, joint dysfunction, etc., so patients need to promptly consult a doctor, under the guidance of the doctor for targeted treatment, the situation is serious patients also need to be treated by way of surgery. If wrist discomfort is caused by these conditions, treatment is recommended under the guidance of a physician. If inflammation is present, anti-inflammatory drugs such as acetaminophen and celecoxib may be used; if the pain is severe, drugs such as oral ibuprofen may be taken for pain relief or local closure may be performed; some patients may require brace immobilization to reduce mobility, which may improve symptoms. If the above treatment is not effective, surgery may also be performed.
