Astragalus has some adjunctive therapeutic effects on heart failure caused by heart yang deficiency and heart qi deficiency, but the effect of single Chinese medicine is limited. Astragalus is the root of Astragalus membranaceus plant, which has the effects of tonifying qi and elevating yang, consolidating the surface to stop sweating (stopping sweating by consolidating the surface of the muscle), inducing diuresis to reduce swelling, generating fluids and nourishing blood, promoting stagnation and paralysis, supporting toxins and draining pus (draining pus and toxins from the body), and astringing sores to produce muscle (helping sores to heal more quickly and promoting the growth of new flesh). Astragalus is used in treating qi deficiency and weakness, loose stools, prolonged diarrhea and prolapse of the anus, blood in stool, sweating due to weakness of the surface of the muscle (frequent sweating), edema due to deficiency of qi, internal heat and thirst (fever accompanied by excessive eating, drinking and urinating), blood deficiency and atrophy, hemiplegia (inability of one side of the body to move at will), and paresthesia and numbness. The adverse effects and contraindications of the drug are not clear. Astragalus has some adjuvant therapeutic effects on heart failure caused by heart yang deficiency and heart qi deficiency, but the effect is limited. If there is a need for medication, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a professional physician to identify the symptoms, and not to use it blindly on one’s own.
