Can you drink Chinese medicine to regulate qi and blood deficiency while breastfeeding?

Generally speaking, you cannot drink Chinese medicine to regulate qi and blood insufficiency during breastfeeding, but if necessary, the mother can stop breastfeeding and follow the doctor’s instructions to use medicine to regulate the condition. Lactating women can suffer from qi and blood deficiency due to congenital weakness, dietary disorders, emotional disorders and so on. During breastfeeding, in order to avoid Chinese medicine ingredients being transferred to the baby through breast milk and causing discomfort to the baby, those with qi and blood deficiency during breastfeeding should avoid drinking Chinese medicine. For women with insufficient qi and blood, they can first improve through diet therapy, such as eating red dates, peanuts, yam, lean meat, fish and shrimp in moderation. For some of those with severe Qi and Blood deficiency, if necessary, they can follow the doctor’s advice and use Chinese medicine to regulate their condition, but they need to suspend breastfeeding to minimize the impact on the baby’s growth and development. Some people with qi and blood deficiencies can also seek regular medical treatment through acupuncture and moxibustion on points such as Baihui, Guanyuan, and Shenque to regulate the body and promote the restoration of health. It is recommended that breastfeeding qi and blood deficiencies follow the doctor’s instructions for medication, and not to use drugs or prescriptions indiscriminately on their own.
